Moulding a masterpiece.

A friend encouraged me with this quirky little line today. "When you are down to nothing, God is up to something". My first reaction was to smile. Come on, it IS funny when you first hear it randomly out of nowhere. And of course, me being me, plenty of ridiculous images came to my mind. I pictured God kind of rubbing His hands together and saying, "Now now my child, you really just have to learn to trust me here," and me curling up in a foetal position rocking back and forth going "No..no...no...." LOL okay excuse the poetic license, but seriously, doesn't it conjure up a pretty amusing mental picture? I'll admit, I giggled a little.

But I started to reflect on that statement and the truth in it blowed my mind. When you are down to nothing, God is up to something. What's that something? Don't we all just itch to know? It's like straining to catch a bird that always seems to be just sligghhtly out of reach. I'll be the first to confess, many times I argue with God over His methods.

Me : "BUT GOD!! blahblahblahblah etc etc etc... I don't want..."
God, through His Word: "Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what He has made crooked?" Ecclesiastes 7:13 (NLT)
Me : . . . zzz . . . *silence*

Haha thats a pretty epic shut down. But there is just NO response you can make to that statement so you just sorta shut it and meekly concede defeat.... Y'know what I'm saying?

Hehehe. To go slightly off topic guys, always refer to the Bible for epic one-liners because God always has the best ones. I'm not joking, you just have to look for them. But yes that's completely unrelated to what I was saying, so back to the issue.

The essence of that line is, it's really just God being the Potter and we being the clay. Imagine with me. We're all lumps of soft clay, in various stages of workmanship, all over the Potter's giant pottery barn. What are we? We certainly look like nothing. In human eyes, we're just worthless lumps of clay that would never amount to anything. But in the Potter eyes, He sees potential; He sees possibility. He sees the amazing bowls, vases, jugs, plates, etc. He sees what the clay can become. And hence, God is always up to something--adding water, shaping and moulding different parts of the clay. He does all of these to make us into exquisite piece of workmanship for His glory.

Do you want to be a masterpiece or a stubborn lump of clay that decides it just won't be moulded? You decide! (Pretty vase vs. ugly clay lump? The choice is obvious ok....)

But yes, a powerful truth encapsulated in a few simple words and a simple concept. Sleep on it guys! And have a great week ahead :)
