Taking the first step.

Today at cell group, we revisited the familiar story of Moses and the burning bush. I have both heard and read this story probably a million times, but I have never before seen it with the clarity that I saw today.

In a nutshell, Moses ("crown prince" of Egypt) as we all know, has fled Egypt's palaces in fear of incurring Pharaoh's wrath for murdering someone. He's happily settled down with a wife and new relatives, tending a flock of sheep, and thought he was set for life. God however, did not share the same sentiments. He appeared to Moses under the shield of a burning bush, and sent him on a mission: to rescue captive Israel from the bondage and slavery of their cruel Egyptian taskmasters. (Please go and read this in your Bible haha it's absolutely fascinating.

Moses of course, makes some feeble protests and gets instantly shot down by God;

Exodus 4:10-11 Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."
The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD? (NIV)

The story goes on, and Moses went. Let's pause here. Don't you find it extremely interesting that Moses's response to God's call is typical of us all? "God I can't.. I'm this, I'm that..I think you've got the wrong man for the job!!" But the thing is, God hasn't got the wrong man for the job, because He just doesn't make those mistakes. The way God directed Moses to arise and do His will is the exact way He directs us now, He often gives us the first step, for Moses, it was to(go back to Egypt) and the last (rescue my people), but He doesn't give us the in between, and that's the part that frustrates everyone the most.

In Moses's eyes, the task was monumentous. In fact, he protested that it was impossible. It was just as well that God didn't tell him then and there exactly what methods He was going to use to get the Israelites out of Egypt (plagues etc) and the most epic method of all, to part the Red Sea and get an entire nation to walk through it?!? Moses would've probably decided he was just having a crazy dream. See, God doesn't give us the exact how to's at the beginning of whatever He's called us to do. He just wants us to obey, walk by faith, and at the appropriate time, He will show us the how to's. Don't be discouraged by circumstances, by other people, or even by your own emotions, but be encouraged by the example of men and women who were willing to be at the service of our God :) Take the first step, take the baby step into whatever God has called you to today (your studies, sport,music,whatever) and do it FOR God, WITH God, and you will find that He will lead you every single step of the way.
